“Throw your net
on the right side of the boat and you will find some [fish].” When
they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large
number of fish.

Fishing
I love to fish, but I have
never experienced the kind of catch that Peter and his buddies did that
morning. But why is this story here? What is God trying to tell us?
Let’s remember that Peter was a commercial fisherman and he had
probably been out most of the night and caught nothing. Jesus was along
the shore, but Peter and company had not identified who He was at this
point. As Jesus barks out instructions on where to fish, can you
picture the tired Peter rolling his eyes and thinking, "oh great,
now this guy is going to tell me how to fish!" Probably Peter
didn’t feel like he needed help--he knew what he was doing. But Peter
yields to this voice from shore and he is blessed with the catch of a
lifetime. It seems as if God set this encounter up to profoundly touch
Peter and cause him to be open to any future direction God might bring.
What area of life
do you feel you have covered and don’t need God’s help with? Are you
open to the radical thing he might want to do right in the middle of your
expertise? I’ve found responding to God’s seemingly irrational
promptings have proven to be some of my best decisions. Listen. Is God
yelling out from shore to you? Is He waiting for you to respond?
Today’s
Prayer:
Lord, open me to your direction. Show me where to put down my nets.
Jesus, give me courage to be obedient to the guidance you would speak.
I’m listening Lord.

Memory Verse of the Week:
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you
wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that
you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
John 15:7-8 (New International Version)
