Day 22: Romans 1/Psalm 41

Wednesday March 17, 2004

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen. Being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Romans 1:20 (New International Version)

The Spiritual Condition of all Mankind
In this first chapter of his letter to the Romans, Paul describes the spiritual condition of all mankind. That is, all have sinned and therefore need the righteousness that only God can provide. He has chosen to provide this righteousness through his son, Jesus.

Paul lets us know that there is no one who has an excuse for not knowing his holy nature. The evidence that he cites is His creation. God’s creation surrounds us and is visible proof of his invisible qualities. Every day we see the sun, sky, clouds, birds, animals, fish, and man, whom he made in his own image.

Are there times when you question God’s power, his divine nature or even his existence? Returning to view his creation will help us understand his sovereign, holy nature.

Today’s Prayer:
Jesus, help me to comprehend your power and holiness in all that I see. Teach me to give glory to you for all that you have made. Expand my understanding of you as the creator and me as your creation.

Memory Verse of the Week:
"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
Romans 3:23-24 (New International Version)
