Day 50: Hebrews 13/Psalm 145

Wednesday April 14, 2004

The Final Chapter
This ends our 50 Day Experience. Calendar-wise, we've gone from the Jewish festival of Passover-prophetically fulfilled in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus-to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the festival of Pentecost. The word Pentecost means fiftieth.

The Experience was designed to do one thing: provide some tools to bring us in touch with the beauty, grace, power and love of Jesus Christ. We've read key foundational books of the Bible and practiced basic spiritual exercises to draw us closer to Him. We believe in keeping things simple. Depth is only as deep as the application. Perhaps that's why the writer of Hebrews says in this final chapter:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace...
Hebrews 13:8-9a (New International Version)

We started these fifty days with John's book. The simple, but profoundly deep words of Jesus and His uncomplicated way of meeting people where they were-broken, wounded, marginalized, without being condescending or condemning-brought deep healing to each one. The good news is that Jesus doesn't change. He is still just as He was then. His offer of unmerited favor extends to every aspect of our lives, no matter how long or short we've known Him. The same love that saved us is the same love that sustains us. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace?

Thanks for joining me, the writers of the devotionals (great job, gang!), and over 3000 people who were family with us on this 50 Day Experience.

And as the book of Hebrews appropriately ends: Grace be with you all.

Much love,
Dave Workman, workman@cincyvineyard.com, Senior Pastor at VCC

Today's Prayer:
Father, help me to walk in the knowledge that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. I trust Him with my life, well aware that I am in need of His healing touch. Strengthen me with Your underserved favor and give me courage to share that same grace with others. Amen.

Memory Verse of the Week:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"
Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)
