You were created to become like Christ
Maturity Team – Dan Dougherty 301-884-5936
The purpose of our Maturity Team is to assist our
members in spiritual growth so that they may become fully devoted
followers of Jesus Christ (disciples). The goal of this team is to help
members enter into a small group for fellowship, accountability,
encouragement, study, prayer, and spiritual growth. A healthy, growing
tree serves as the icon for this team as it reminds us to keep
spreading our branches as we seek to grow roots deep into the fertile
soil of God’s Word. The vision for this team is to offer small groups
for nurture, ministry, support, recovery and healing, and special
interests and to transform all groups within the church into
purpose-driven small groups.
Maturity Team ministries include small groups;
adult education such as Disciple, Companions in Christ, and
Experiencing God classes; and spiritual retreats.

Just look at His
disciples and you will know Jesus believed in small groups as the most
effective means to grow mature followers. We here at St. Paul's also
believe that disciples are most readily developed through the nurturing
and accountable environment provided by small groups. With the goal of
growing fully devoted followers of Christ, we offer small groups for
men, women, couples, and singles.groups focus on the life application
of what we know to be true through Scripture and study, and function as
a cohesive unit to support one another through all of life's
challenges. We currently have groups meeting most evenings during the
week and also have a few daytime groups available.
Adult
Education

Opportunities to
grow through adult education are numerous and varied. We periodically
offer Disciple Classes (Disciple I through IV), Experiencing God, and
Companions in Christ for group education activities. In addition to
these rather intense study classes, we also offer a wide range of
men's, women's, and couples’ Bible study and relationship study
classes. Classes are open to all who seek to grow in Christ and
suggestions for new study offerings are always welcome.

Adult Sunday school
continues as one of our foundational steps in Christian discipleship as
classes in Bible study, life application, and spiritual growth are
offered at 8:15am, 9:30am, and 11:15am each week. When combined with
one of our weekly worship services, Adult Sunday school provides a time
of growing in Christ.

In addition to
several Men's Small Groups, our men's ministries also include a monthly
Men's Breakfast, and a bi-annual Men's Retreat. Generally held the
third Saturday of each month, the Men's Breakfast provides a hearty
meal, a brief time of worship, a speaker (live or videotape), and a
period of small group discussion. Our bi-annual Men's Retreat is
traditionally held at the West River Retreat Center and includes
presentations by laymen within our church, small group discussions,
intramural-type activities, and time for introspection and relaxation.
We are also looking at other men's activities and outings to start up
in 2003/2004.
Women's
Retreats

Jesus desires for
us to come and sit at His feet, but for some “Marthas,” that is a hard
thing to do! We all need time to "Be still and know that He is
God" (Ps. 46:10). Women's retreats provide time away to reflect,
renew and refresh, as well as to have fun, fellowship and grow in our
faith through worship: teachings and music, small groups and quiet
times.
