The service was
started by a core team of members who were looking for something new,
something alternative to the routine of Sunday morning and hymn sings.
After much deliberation, a coffee house (Java @ the RO4C) was added for folks
to gather after the service and hang out. Java normally lasts until 9 PM or
later in spite of the service’s ending time of 7:45 and there you
can find new and old members who can answer your questions, as well as
seekers who have never thought about this Christianity stuff much
before. Pastor Stan Cardwell wants this service to especially reach out
to the seeker community, those who are looking for something more in
life, but they aren’t quite sure what they really need.
That’s why band leader Michael Bell says, “Our music is
some praise music and some hymns rocked up with drums, bass, and
electric guitar, but we also play tunes that anyone would know who has
listened to the radio lately. We
play punk, SKA, rock, metal - you name it, we’re working on it.
We also take requests.” If you’re looking to attend the
RO4C, we suggest that you arrive a few minutes before the start of the
service to find a good seat and have your questions answered by our
hospitality team (they’re the ones in the black t-shirts with
neon yellow letters) and that you stick around afterward for java and
conversation at the coffeehouse. The service begins promptly at 6:00 PM
every Saturday night and dress is casual; come as you are, please. St.
Paul’s United Methodist Church is located on Route 5 in
Leonardtown near St. Mary’s Hospital and Mattingly’s
Grocery Store. Look for the sign and the cemetery (but we’re very
much alive inside!). See you there!
